To receive a cosmetology license in Nevada or a license in one of the other beauty practitioner disciplines in this state you have to attend a licensed school and complete the minimum required training hours as specified by the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology before you can take the exams. The license application fee is $15, the fee for the national test $110. The Nevada State Board of Cosmetology Specialist Team oversees the administration of three tests: a theory test, a state law test, and a practical test. All three tests are offered daily at both Board Locations. Please refer to their General Testing Information page for more information.

  • Cosmetology license: 1,600 hours
  • Aesthetician license: 900 hours
  • Electrologist license: 500 hours
  • Hair Designer license: 1,200 hours
  • Nail Technologist license: 600 hours

Cosmetology License Renewal

In Nevada, cosmetology licenses must be renewed every two years. The costs are $70 for the renewal. Four hours continued education units in infection are required in order to renew. The course can be completed online and free of costs.

Out-of-State License

To transfer to a cosmetology license in Nevada the candidate must have a current license in another state. The license has to be in be in good standing and the applicant must prove he/she has passed a NIC written exam. If the candidate has not taken a NIC written exam in any state they must take the exam in Nevada.
