Cosmetology License Renewal

Cosmetology licenses in New Hampshire are renewed every two years in the licensee’s birth month. The renewal fees are $40 for all beauty practitioner disciplines. New Hampshire does not require continuing education (CE) hours are for individual license renewals. Instructors, however, have to complete 24 CE hours within each renewal period.

Out-of-state license / Out-of-country license

An out-of-state license does not automatically qualify you for a cosmetology license in New Hampshire. But you may be able to obtain a license by reciprocity.

Together with the application form, $100 fee, a passport photo, proof of High School Education, GED, or if you are 21 or more years of age a photocopy of  your birth certificate or driver’s license you need also provide the board with following:

  • Certification of State Licensure form. This must be obtained from the State Board in which license is held and must have the embossed State Seal. It has to be sent from your home state’s board directly to the NH Board.
  • Exam information which states the type of exams and language exams were taken in. In order to receive reciprocity, you must have taken a hands-on practical exam and a national written exam taken in English.
  • Transcripts of Training: (From training school with hours and subjects listed) If the school has closed  you need a notarized letter indicating this with school name and address;
  • If you don’t have the required training hours as shown above a notarized letter from a previous employer or co-worker stating you have at least twice as many hours work experience regardless of the years of work experience.
