These required training hours are specified by the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology. After you pass the exam you can apply for the license. The total fee for the license is $40, which is broken down to $15 exam fee and $25 application fee

Cosmetology License Renewal

Cosmetology licenses in Oklahoma are renewed every year.  At the moment no continuing education (CE) is required for individual license renewal. The renewal fees are $25 for all individual licenses of all above-mentioned beauty practitioner disciplines.

Out-of-state license / Out-of-country license

An out-of-state license does not automatically qualify you for a cosmetology license in Oklahoma. But you may qualify for what is called reciprocity. The fee for the application is %65 for both cases below.

Licensed in another state

You must provide the OSBC with a completed Reciprocity application form (Forms) and meet the requirements for a license, which are as follows:

  1. Applicant holds a current license from a state whose qualifications are substantially equal to Oklahoma’s license requirements (having completed at least 1500 hours for basic cosmetologists, at least 600 hours for manicurists or facialists
  2. Applicant has passed the required State Board examinations for licensure;
  3. Applicant has at least three (3) years licensed work experience.

All the above criteria have to be met by the applicant to be eligible for licensure by reciprocity without examination. Such applicants must complete all Oklahoma requirements for licensure. Cosmetology school hours acquired in another state may be transferable. Please contact the Board office for more information

Licensed in another country

The State Board of Cosmetology may grant a license by reciprocity to applicants from outside the United States if all of the qualifications listed below are met.

Applicants for foreign reciprocity must schedule an appointment with the Executive Director and must be able to speak English. Applicants are required to present all of the documentation listed in the Foreign Reciprocity Application form (Forms). All records must be certified, and translation to English must be attached to each document. If any documents are not to remain in the Board’s possession, you must bring photocopies which will be retained by the Board.
